The aim is to create an advanced Intranet experience that transcends traditional boundaries, facilitating seamless connectivity and engagement among us, the employees. It will include:
1. A home page featuring primary services, including:
Facilities such as badminton and tennis courts, a cricket playground, a swimming pool, etc.
Booking of meeting rooms.
Promotions and notifications.
Information about on-campus restaurants and meals (assuming there are 20 restaurants on campus).
Help desk support.
News and announcements.
Payroll and reimbursements information.
Attendance and leave management.
Will also include community and social features aimed at fostering employee engagement.
Please note that this case study was a 24-hour assignment given to me by Reliance Jio during my interview process. I've kept everything as it is without any alterations…🤞
1. Target Audience: Company Employees
2. Communication: Corporate, Approachable, Friendly
Jio Platforms Ltd is an Indian technology company and a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. Established in 2019, the company owns India's largest mobile network operator, Jio, and other digital businesses of Reliance. Jio Platforms is described as a next-generation technology platform focused on delivering digital services across India, with the goal of extending these services to every corner of the country.
Its businesses include:
Jio: Telecommunications and broadband services.
Jio Apps: A suite of around 14 applications.
JioMoney: Digital currency and payment services.
JioMart: Online grocery delivery services in partnership with Reliance Retail.
Employees: Given the diverse range of business verticals, Jio Platforms employs people from various demographics. Therefore, while designing the intranet, we need to take this diversity into consideration.
I have read several articles about intranets and the reasons behind employees needing one.
I did a brief brainstorming about Jio employees: Who they are and how they use the intranet, among other considerations.
I also reached out to two friends of mine who work at different organizations to discuss their usage of the intranet. When one of them mentioned that they hardly use it, I was intrigued to learn the reasons behind their limited usage. I also asked them for their opinions on potential improvements.
Furthermore, I took the initiative to explore my current intranet, familiarizing myself with its features and navigation to gain a more comprehensive perspective.
The intranet is content-based.
The main role of an intranet is to deliver and collect content. For this reason, building and developing it for the employees means focusing on creating interesting content. If the employee does not find interesting or useful
content on this website, they will not use it. Even if the intranet will be technically perfect, as well as visually pleasing; if it's content is not engaging for the reader, then it will become a dead place over time. No one will visit it.
A lot of companies think one site, one solution can work for everyone in their company. But today's users are used to technology that adapts to them. There's not one page or design you can make that will satisfy everyone, so personalization and customization are necessary to match the kinds of experiences our employees see when they're on sites like Netflix, Amazon and Facebook.
It's not mobile-friendly enough to facilitate seamless collaboration or the execution of specific tasks, which in turn hampers productivity. The responsibility lies with us to deliver a delightful collaborative environment!
Considering the number of business verticals Jo Platforms we will find people from every demographics working under one roof. I did a brief brainstorming about the Reliance employees: Who are they? How do they use the intranet?
etc. Though conducting a contextual enquiry would have been a better option, due to time constraints I have relied on the online research & brainstorming.
Here is my ad-hoc persona:

Jio Platforms
Enhanced collaboration and more delightful interactions among employees will not only improve the work environment but also boost productivity. Jio wants employees to explore their hobbies, aiming for physical and emotional wellbeing.
Employee
Delightful experience. Exciting work enviornment. United, motivated
and happy employees!
Increased Productivity and Promotion of Healthy
Competition:
Each team employs specific software to oversee upcoming, ongoing, and completed tasks. These applications (such as Jira) could be smoothly integrated into the Reliance Intranet. This integration offers an exciting opportunity: employees who successfully complete tasks on or before the stipulated deadline—pending approval from their respective team leader/manager—will earn coins as a reward. Over time, these coins can be collected and subsequently redeemed at any Reliance Jio online store or the restaurants situated within the Reliance campus.
Based on the cumulative number of coins acquired by individual employees, a leaderboard will be generated. At the end of each month, the employee with the highest count of coins will become eligible for rewards.
This initiative aims to motivate employees to adhere to deadlines and foster a healthy competitive spirit among them.
Showcase skills and receive recognition and rewards:
Any employee who has an interest in writing and wants to showcase it
has the option to post blogs. These blogs will particularly be restricted to
certain topics like- technology, sports, health and fitness etc. The idea of
introducing blogs is to encourage awareness and fun learning for
interested employees. These blog posts will be visible to fellow followers of the Jio employees. The top 5 blog posts with the maximum number of hits will be sent for review. A jury will rate the blogs & winning blog will receive coins as rewards.
Ease of Accessibility:
The calendar can be integrated into the intranet, providing employees with notifications about upcoming meetings, directions to meeting rooms within the campus, or the ability to reserve a new meeting room for upcoming sessions.
Community and Social features for Employee
engagement:
PlayTime Minutes: Each employee will be allocated a quota of 45 minutes for PlayTime. Employees can utilize this PlayTime to participate in sports activities of their choice, either individually or in groups with colleagues. At the end of each month, the employee who has made the most use of their allocated PlayTime minutes will receive a reward.
The allocation of limited PlayTime minutes aims to strike a balance between work and recreational activities. Furthermore, the concept of rewarding employees for their PlayTime endeavors seeks to encourage physical activity. As research indicates, maintaining good physical health can lead to improved mental well-being, thereby enhancing employee focus and efficiency. These PlayTime minutes can also be used for recreational activities within the Reliance Campus.
Social profile:
Every employee will possess an individual social profile. They can add their current skills as keywords or update the profile with any new skills they are pursuing or have already accomplished. Additionally, a feature to follow other colleagues will be available, fostering a network among employees.
Like-minded employees can learn from each other & can connect for assistance or guidance in particular areas. Employees can search for a specific colleague using their name or by keyword (such as a particular skill, e.g., Java, HTML, Python, Tax Filing, Sketch, Adobe Photoshop, etc.).
This initiative presents an excellent opportunity to foster a robust collaborative environment in an enjoyable yet professional manner
Essential Features:
Payroll and Reimbursements
Attendance and Leaves
Help Desk
Company News and Announcements
Other HR-related and Essential Features, etc.
The fundamental features within the Intranet will grant straightforward access to essential services. These features will be intuitive and easily accessible.
Search, Message Inbox, Help Section, Account, Notifications, Blog Posts, Write a Blog, Leaderboard, Meetings, Tasks, Explore Campus, Earnings.
The intranet should be readily accessible to facilitate swift actions from any location. As a result, we will consider both the App and Responsive Web platforms. Given the time constraint, my primary focus will be on developing the App or Mobile web interface.
There should be a balance between enjoyment and professionalism. Communication needs to be corporate, approachable, and friendly. The ideas should uplift everyone.

Home & Account
Search Flow
When the user clicks on the 'Search' button on the homepage, they will be directed to a dedicated search page.
This page will smoothly slide open from the bottom and include sections such as sorting tabs (utilising keywords), popular blog posts, the latest visit section, Reliance Jio announcements (which will also be sent as notifications to employees), company news, promotions, and more.
Wireframing for the Desktop site
Simple, intuitive & responsive. The desktop site will have 2 or 3 vertical sections depending on the size of the screen.
